Cospire is a useful wiki for people who want the base functionality of a wiki with a strong user interface to ease beginners into this type of collaboration. You can create a public or private Cospire wiki with a security level appropriate to your needs.
Some of Cospire's unique features come from a design to weed out less useful pages and strengthen useful ones - a "survival of the fittest information" system based on implicit and explicit feedback from users. In addition, collaborators are encouraged to contribute by having contributor profiles with reputation scores which are reflective of their relative contributions to the wiki (community).
Specifically, Cospire deviates significantly from many traditional wikis in many regards including a strong reliance on WYSIWYG editing over markup, visual category representation, an optional wizard to help create pages (called "Knowledge Objects" in Cospire), page rating which effects search rank, attachement of files to pages, contributor profiles, article link harvesting, page permissions, one-click homepage determination, annotation categorization, and annotation rating.
