Internet Relay Chat, or IRC in common parlance, is a type of real time internet chat. It uses topical group discussion via channels (private messaging of users is also allowed), and wiki providers may have their own channels for support or other purposes. IRC is a form of chat, and not a client (unlike AIM or other online chat), so you need to download an IRC client to use it. A few providers supply a free on-site way to access IRC for those without a client.
